Introduction to Diabetes

Diabetes is a persistent that affects how our body regulates blood sugar. It is a health condition that occurs when the body either cannot produce enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas, acts like a key, unlocking the cells and allowing glucose to enter for energy use.

Diabetes Type 1

Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune condition where the immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Often diagnosed in childhood. People with Type 1 need lifelong insulin therapy.

Diabetes Type 2

Type 2 diabetes is when your body struggles to use insulin, leading to high blood sugar. This can happen because your cells resist insulin or your body doesn’t make enough. Type 2 diabetes is a condition that happens because of a problem in the way the body regulates and uses sugar as a fuel.
